BREAK A LEG
BBC Drama Doctors Does Circus
DREAM.
Meet the cast of ‘Doctors’. A long-running BBC1 lunchtime medical soap opera famous for its dramatic storylines.
The brief? Consultation and expertise for a circus-themed team building episode. As part of the storyline, the Doctors’ team were going on a team building session. And certain cast members needed a significant amount of circus skill…
DARE.
…which represented a slight challenge since most of the cast had never done any kind of circus training before. Fortunately, we love to teach circus skills. And we love a good challenge.
So, we came up with a plan. We started by identifying skills that the cast could learn within 8 weeks. Skills that would also look good on camera.
Then we delivered eight weeks of training prior to filming, to skill each character according to their part. We also provided on-set health and safety advice for all the aspects of circus training and filming.
Finally, we paired each performer with a professional ready for final filming.
DAZZLE.
Filming took place in November 2017 at our premises in Kings Heath Birmingham, a fully adapted building for circus arts and the perfect location for the Midlands-based soap. The episode aired on the 22nd March 2018 and the cast and crew were delighted with what we’d been able to achieve in just 8 short weeks. Suffice to say that we ‘cured’ the cast of their circus dilemma!
