Keeping the vibe alive
At Grand Central, Birmingham
DREAM.
Meet Jess Rowney. Marketing Coordinator for Birmingham’s Bullring who had heard about our antics at Grand Central and wanted a piece of the action.
The brief? Entertainment for their Student Sessions night; a club chic vibe with walkabout performers throughout the Bullring to inspire Birmingham’s students while they shopped. Jess was particularly keen to bring something young and hip to transform the space.
DARE.
Everyone agreed that a typical circus look wasn’t really right for the event. So we created a mood board to explore a much trendier take on nightclub couture. The outrageous costumes, designed by director Zaq Andel, were styled around three key looks: club-glam sparkle, glitter festival chic and cyber punk power.
Then, we invented an interactive evening of circus skills to entertain passers-by including unicycle stunts, stilt walking, trick skating, acrobatics, hula hooping, break dancing and LED light shows.
DAZZLE.
Over the course of 6 hours, the space was flooded with 10,000 students. An interactive photo booth gave students a chance to get a moving picture from all angles whilst a DJ kept things moving.
Our costumes brought vibrancy and energy to the massive space, while pop-up performances created a sense of circus mayhem and debauchery. Performers worked the entire bottom floor of the Bullring, as well as the skywalk and top floor of Grand Central, invading shops and encouraging students to soak up the amazing discounts on offer.
Finally, we ended the evening with flash mob finale! Jess was thoroughly impressed with the final result and felt it fit the brief perfectly.
“Circus Mash really brought our Student Sessions event to life. Shoppers loved the roaming performances and the costumes fit perfectly with our club-chic vibe. The performers were amazing, thanks for an epic night!” Jess Rowney. Marketing Coordinator, The Bullring
